Manual Lymphatic
Drainage

$30 - Student MLD, 45-60 minutes

I have recently completed training in Manual Lymphatic Drainage and I would like to offer sessions at a discounted rate as I gain experience.

I may be referring to notes. My technique may not be smooth or perfect yet. I'll be experimenting with positioning on the table.  Your feedback is welcome.

I want to determine if this is a service I want to offer on a long-term basis.

If you want a session, please complete the form below to start the process. I may have follow up questions before we schedule.  Please do not call for an appointment - the form below is the only way to schedule this type of appointment.

What is MLD?

and why would I want a session?

Lymph is a clear fluid that surrounds every cell in the body.  It carries white blood cells, which fight infections, as well as proteins and debris from cells or bacteria breaking down. Much like our blood vessels, lymph vessels help move the lymph fluid from around the cells, back up towards the heart.

Lymph is moved by the flexing of near by muscles.  When an area swells with lymph it is bringing white blood cells to an area of injury.  Swelling can also occur when there has been damage to the lymph system due to removing lymph nodes, injury to lymph pathways, or treatments such as radiation.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a technique of applying outside force to get the lymph moving.  Vodder MLD is a very gentle, light technique of stretching the skin to create a vacuum to pull the lymph along its path.  It's slow, repetitive and relaxing.  Every session starts at the end of the lymph path (near the heart), and then works backwards clearing the pathway to the affected body part.  For example, if you had swelling in your ankle, an MLD session would start at your heart, work down through points in your abdomen, the groin, and down the leg, reaching the foot last.  Then the session would work from the foot back up this path.

You should notice a difference after an MLD session, however, the area may swell again, but at least the area will have fresh lymphatic fluid with new white blood cells, and the used cellular debris has been swept back to the circulator system to the eliminated.

MLD session is not indicated for anyone with a heart condition such as COPD, CHF or DVT.  If you are unsure if you should receive MLD, please consult with your doctor.  As I am new to this technique, I will not be working with post surgical swelling, until 4-6 weeks after surgery.
